MASSA MARITTIMA

Massa Marittima, that despite the name its more than twenty kilometers far from the sea, is considered one of the medieval jewels of Tuscany. Its origins are wounded by mystery and traces of human settlements of the Bronze Age have been found in its outskirts. In the Etruscan period the zone was known for the wealth of its mines and is probably that the actual city was once the Roman 'Massa Veternense'. After this periods the settlement remained at the borders of the history at least until the 9th century, when it became center of the Episcopalian power thanks to the transfer of the Bishop's Main Seat from Populonia, due to the degrade and abandonment of this city.

Today the town center of Massa Marittima is a forced destination for all the lovers of the Middle Age that visit Tuscany.

 

CAMPIGLIA MARITTIMA

 Campiglia Marittima is an ancient village where the charm of the Middle Ages blends with nature, relaxation and sport.

Campiglia is located in the hills and down along the winding road surrounded by a beautiful landscape full of green, is the Archaeological Park of San Silvestro, the spa, the pond with natural spring of hot water until you get to dive into the sea St. Vincent.

SUVERETO

Suvereto is a village in the province of Livorno and it’s part of the circuit of the most beautiful villages in Italy.

It is known for being home to one of the major wineries and one of the wines that are produced in its lands is the Val di Cornia DOC Suvereto.

It 's a typical medieval Tuscan village, with its narrow streets, old houses and churches, including the Church of the Santissima Annunziata Del Crocifisso, the Madonna di Sopra Porta.

The area around Suvereto is ideal for lovers of outdoor sports such as hiking or cycling, but also for nature lovers in general due to the presence, in the municipality of Suvereto, the Natural Park of Montioni, characterized by a rich fauna and Mediterranean flora.

Suvereto is just a few miles away and is a medieval village to be accommodated in the itinerary of visits.

 

BOLGHERI

Bolgheri is located on a little height at the end of the famous Cypresses Boulevard that stretches from San Guido. The village is surrounded by woods, plenty of Mediterranean vegetation and a well-tilled plain.

Bolgheri is linked to Castagneto, - its borough - through "Via Bolgherese", a wonderful boulevard become famous as the "Wine Road" for its production of rare wines. Through a mighty arch of a castle you will get into the old village. Indoors, among its ancient lanes and squares, little "shops" spring up. There you may buy the typical products of the area and taste the natural local speciality.
Between 1838 and 1848 Giosuè Carducci lived in Bolgheri, chanted it in its lines and this village became known all over the world.

 

SASSETTA

Sassetta is a charming little historical village on the Etruscan Coast, set among woods and stands of chestnuts on a hilltop overlooking the sea.

This Medieval stronghold still contains reminders of its past, such as the Romanesque baptismal font, a 15th-century painting of the Virgin, a rock crystal crucifix (15th-16th century) and other paintings which are to be found in the ancient church of St Andrew Apostle.

The woods are full of hiking trails and paths for walks, cycling and horseback riding, and numerous agricultural holdings offering holiday accommodation and local produce can be found here too.
In Sassetta, old traditions handed down through the years are kept alive with colourful, folkloristic events. Sassetta's delicious, wholesome food is celebrated at the autumn fests.

 

ABBAZIA DI SAN GALGANO

Did you ever say that the legendary "Sword in the Stone" is in Tuscany? Some say that the sword that inspired the adventures of King Arthur in the famous Disney movie is in front of the imposing Abbey of San Galgano, precisely in the Hermitage of Montesiepi.

 

Just an hour's drive from Hotel Parrini, in the direction of Siena, you can discover this legendary wonder that is located right in the center of the circular chapel, where a spur of stone protrudes from the terracotta floor, where the sword is set.
